it looks like the base game works (with some problems) with an alternative launcher, but not as it is.

Old disks with working bits are always a great find!
Let us know how you get on.
I recently inherited an old computer which I can use to boot from my old external - haven't seen the inside of that OS in around 5 years (it's got all my map-making stuff on it), now I have to find my old Homeworld iso..., and then some time

Post subject: Re: PLAYING ON LINUX
hELLO everyone.I was wondering if anyone knew of a work-around to play HWRM on steam.my old disks of original game are no longer playable, and since I went linux 100 % I haven't been able to play game at all.I need my fix man.Got withdrawal,DT's.play well all.
Use playonlinux. It installs wine and all other software if necessary. I use it, and HWRM works just fine on Manjaro KDE (using Steam under wine, the native Linux-based Steam won't do it). If you have Intel GPU you need some additional tweaks, with nvidia/AMD you should be fine.
