Excellent, thanks. For my part, I'm behind-the-scenes for a few days, capturing images, and then will have hopefully one last push to finish and deliver... until the 7.4 changes are added, of course.

I'll have a new version up probably a day or so within the release of 7.4.

Post subject: Manual translation
Hello, great work on the manuals they are really detailed !
I love complex and I have played it since version 5 so generally I'm able to figure out how to use new ships and features by myself or with the descriptions (that I read carefully since I had some issues with the evacuation system Laughing).
But I think a manual has become a necessity for beginners and since it looks like many complex players don't speak English as their first language it might be a good idea to translate the manuals in others languages with the help of the members.
So I'm offering to translate them in French, my English isn't very good but good enough to translate from English to French ... I hope Mr. Green.
Tell me if your interested or if your want to translate them.
Sagyxil - Wed May 13, 2009 8:40 pm
Post subject:
@moa: I don't mind if you translate the manual I made. Just bear in mind that I have made a number of changes from the manual currently available in the upcoming one for 7.4.

I was wondering if someone could please verify that I have the meanings of skirmish options correctly. I know it may sound silly, but I am have having problems in game with the settings. I have looked in the manuals and not seen anything that could satisfy my inquiry

Research Sensitivity
Modifies the research point value for research topics. The higher the setting, the fewer research points you get for researching a topic.

(This one is simple).

Honor Sensitivity
Modifies the point values for all actions which affect honor.

Does this mean that, selecting option few, my actions will give me less Honor as opposed to setting maximum?

Recruiting Speed Modifies the rate at which new crew and officers are recruited/replenished at.
Does this mean that, selecting few, will give me less overall Crew and Officers per game as opposed to setting maximum?

Hyperspace Accessibility
Modifies the cost of hyperspace travel.

If I set this to few, will it cost less to Hyperspace?

Rank Remuneration
Modifies the yearly R.U. bonus granted by rank

Does this mean that setting option few, will give me less RU per year as opposed to maximum

Thank You

Rectuiting speed modifies the speed that crew/officers are regenterated after one of your units die or after you get more space for more crew/officers. I'm not sure which end of the scale is which though.

Rank Remuneration is like resouce injections, or like RU Fusion, only it's based on your rank. You get XXX RU's for having Z rank at the end of every year. The higher your rank, the more resources you will recieve from "Rank Remuneration". Few results in a lesser amount of resources given to you from being Z rank. I think of it as a counter to maintenence, as early on, this provides enough resources to cover you maintanence for the first few years in the game, but once the game really gets started, this becomes less influential.

OK, I'm going to post a direct link in the support page of the Complex main site.
I would like to give the manual for download (the Complex server will host it, no size limitations), Sagyxil, have you a definitive version? I need the manual in a single file, but if you prefer I can link it as it is now.

About the on-line manual I will link it, if you need hosting, I can provide it.

Thanks, let me know.

Beghins, I will need hosting please, I have a very limited plan, and the current hosting's bandwidth is about maxed out (aka slycode.com will be down soon if I don't pay them more).

I have some more work to do. Can I give it to you now, and then when it's finished (added/ improved images, completion of modules page, etc) can I get you the new images/ updated pages to overwrite?
Beghins - Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:13 am
Post subject:
OK, send me the on-line manual in a .zip by mail (beghins@fastwebnet.it), I will upload it into the server and I will link it by the the main web site too (support page).
Any time you have a new release, do the same thing.
The same things for the .pdf manual, but I can do this by myself.

As alternative you can try to use this forum, you and Sagyxil have the quota limit setted to "High", so you can upload/PM up to 15MByte, it should be enough but just let me know if you need more.

Thanks for your work, Beghins.

Sorry, I had to bring down slycode.com for now. Its bandwidth usage maxed out. (1998.40/2000.00 Megs).

I'll / we'll awaiting hosting on a complex-related site - thanks Beghins. PM me if you have questions, and I'll continue to work on improvements locally until it's published.

Beghins, have you considered writing up the story of HWComplex, and having that in the manual? Heck, even the story of how each ship in complex came to be as they are would be nice. How the hell did they devise the Vortex? Why would both races suddenly decide they needed a ship class between destroyer and heavycruisers? etc. etc.
vila - Mon Aug 10, 2009 7:32 am

Question Heavy cruisers? There are no heavy cruisers in either HW2 or Complex.

i think he mans battlecruiser
vila - Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:11 am
Post subject:
Then he should say battle cruiser. Many newcomers have enough difficulty without looking for non-existent ships in the build manager.
hell diguner - Fri Aug 14, 2009 4:25 am
Post subject:
I say heavy cruiser because that is the name for the HW1 equivalent of a battle cruiser, and I was speaking of how the past became the present.

I'd ask why they went from "heavy" to "battle" classifications, but that seems self-evident to me: the "heavy" classification was phased out when the experimental "battle" classification was used more and more in favor of the previous super capital ship.

vila - Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:39 am
Post subject:
Forgive me if I'm being a bit dense, but I see no connection with HW1 - Complex is based on HW2.

I have no idea what you mean by 'the "heavy" classification was phased out when the experimental "battle" classification was used more and more in favor of the previous super capital ship'.

So I finally stopped being lazy and got a new domain, so I'm considering republishing the complex manual, since I still have the files. I probably won't add some of the latest content (7.4.4) and just wait to see if Complex 8 comes out and add new ships, etc, then.

Are you still alive out there and interested?

Good call to wait for Complex 8. There will probably be many new ships and adjustments to existing vessels.

So I gave up on Complex 8 a year ago. At the time I found all the new power stuff too hard to get my head around, especially with no manual. But now it is final I would love to have a go (and of course donate in return).

Is there any documentation/manual online or for download, even a good forum thread, for Complex 8?
Nakamura - Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:05 pm
Post subject:
You're right Jong, we'll put something together, while the work for C9 is going on.
The problem is, that a proper guide for something this complicated would be extremely long.
Jong - Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:12 pm
Post subject:
Thanks, yep. The problem is that same complexity (hard to avoid the pun!) makes it almost impenetrable for those of us that weren't there all the way through the development process.

To be honest, I found the earlier C8 builds just not fun compared to C7.4. I know it was just my ignorance causing the problem, but there seemed no way to educate myself!

I don't want to be ungrateful. What you guys have done is amazing and there is no reason why, along with all the dev work you have been doing, you should have found the time for a manual too! But i sure do look forward to when there is something, even just a "beginners guide" to C8.
Nakamura - Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:24 pm
Post subject:
I'll do it myself I guess, I've been around since 5.5
Note that there is a manual for 7.4.4
I think i'll just re-work that, although a full re-visiting may be needed.
Jong - Thu Sep 27, 2012 1:56 pm
Post subject:
Thank you so much.

Yeah the 7.4 manual was perfect for getting started with that. Even a few pages on "changes from 7.4" (not release notes, clearly, but an explanation of the new ships/power system/other changes) would be great, but, of course, a full manual would be better for complete Complex noobs.
Nakamura - Thu Sep 27, 2012 2:15 pm
Post subject:
I just evaluated that manual... I don't think I have the time to do this for C8...
There will be a guide though.
And we do plan a REAL manual for C9.

Hi people, I'm new in the forum and I've have to say that english it's not my native language.

I'll make an effort only to say thanks to Sagyxil for its work it's really a piece of art, and i would love to see it implemented in the actual complex mod. Your descriptions of ships range of weapons, tons of stuff man you're simply the best many thanks for your work. Looking forward to see one updated pdf of the manual with the new features.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm guessing t should go something like this;

1. Introduction to the Complex mod, what it's all about.

2. Installation instructions, troubleshooting (can be a bit confusing for newbies)

3. List of all the new game mechanics followed by a brief description of each one e.g (Rank, Power, Planets, Radiation, Crew/Captain, megaliths.... )

4. In-depth explanation of each one,(Screenshots and everything)

5. List of all new ships complete with a description detailing firepower, armour etc. including special abilities and picture of each one.

6. Examples of good strategy techniques, how to manage resources etc.

7. FAQ

8. List of all contributors to the mod

9. Links to this forum and homeworld2complex.com

10. Some awesome screenshots

OMG. I can't believe how hard it is to find a manual on this.
I've read like 20 different threads now, and when I'm lucky enough to find a link to it, there's no actual link... just posts like "Here it is" and then their signature...

Is it so much to ask for something that tells me all the juicy details of this amazing mod?? Sad

Welcome to the forum.

Things like manuals, translations, add-ons etc have been produced by the community in the past. Many of them er, get abandoned prior to any finished output.

The Dev Team are occupied with the development of the mod, so no time for the add-ons there.

I'll have a quick look and see if I have a copy of the Complex Manual refered to in the thread....

EDIT:
...found it. It's on a back up disk, so will have to ferret it out.
It is v2.3.1, rather old and refers to Complex 7.4.
Reply to this post if you would like me to uplod it.
