Someone may remember Advanced mod for HW2 which had Multirole fighters which had additional anti-fighter/corvette missiles and i think this would be good addition as researchable option in complex that would help fighters to be bit better in later phases of the game
basically these are fast and agile short range missiles(Aim-9 Sidewinder anyone?) with smaller damage but enough to destroy non-upgraded bomber and damage corvette but unlike shiry callistoes they are fired automatically

That was the mod that included modular destroyers too.. i couldnt remember the name.. he is talking about intercepter squads.. they had a missle that they fires along side the main gun, it fired every 7-8 seconds

Kinda reminds me of the TFS mod... EVERYTHING had a tactical name in that mod. all the little burst fire PDS weapons of the capital ships were replace with little machine guns. Most fighters had missiles to supplement their cannons and most capital ships had expandable armaments through modular weapon systems. One ship for the Hiigs even had expandable armour. Oh, and all the frigates movement scripts got an overhaul. It wasn't rare to see a Vaygr assault frigate flip over and do a barrel roll to bring a cannon to bear on a passing fighter squadron.

Tactical Fleet Simulator is what it was called.

I like the idea of fighter borne missiles. It could be a level two research add-on, with improvements on level three research.

I, personally, wouldn't like to see it on many fighters. At least, not in the way that changes the way they work. I don't know - in my mind, it seems...kind of cheesy, but that may just be from my experience with other mods(or my own mini-mod that I made for me Wink ) and fighter based missles. Shouldn't be their main weapon, either - I'm more for missles on certain corvettes. Missiles on fighters just seem out of place in my mind. Either way Wink

no, no, no, and no.

fighter missiles just takes away from the niche of each type since they'd be effective against frigates and corvettes (and act somewhat like callistoes, my favourite flavour of missile) meanwhile, take out the crap "anti strikecraft missiles" the VGR BS/FS launch and replace them with the hiigaran analog (that split into 4 fast missiles) or give them a unique long range hi-speed anti-strikecraft missile (much like in various mods that attempt to reproduce a certain (taiidani?) missile destroyer)

as for the strange missiles on hiigaran plasma corvettes, find a different use, they're rather strange and ineffective and dont fit its niche

Actually I find those missiles rather interesting. When your Plasma Gunships happen to be sitting around or in the vicinity when enemy bombers show up, they are actually better than useless at thinning them unlike other bomber-types. Yes, they usually miss when fired perpendicular, but when the Gunship gets on their tail, it can whack them rather nicely.

Not everything in life has to fit into a nicely carved 'niche'.
