Gameplay - Who REALLY likes power the way it is now?

Is the Power System a strategic, useful game mechanic?
The core concept of "power" is good, but the current implementation (i.e. the current system with a central station and modules) is sorely lacking. It needs reimplementation.

hm thats strange alc, i think we both play mostly on the same game options, and you didnt have any problems with energy production? i mean, if you play against easy or medium ai it could be the solution, because youll never need cap ships...but how do u win games there? how do you manage to stay in positive energy without sacrificing fleet, research and production, even movement?

I always play against hard or expert AI, as I like big capital ship battles.
However, I only play on big maps which have lots of RUs available, and I concentrate on building up the magnets to their maximum as fast as possible.
I did find gameplay almost impossible in the early betas due to the power shortage, but later betas have been tolerable.

In the new complex beta power is pretty balanced, in case your startup includes getting 2 power generators and a magnet.
The former versions weren't this easy!

Nooo he meant the beta 8.0.92.
You will definitely like it.
I will test the slower gametypes this weekend, my previous comment was related to deathmatch, sorry for not mentioning.
Ooooh and now the expert AI is the best, it alone destroyed, and crucified two other AIs, while i was pounding my guy.

I'm going to refrain from voting until I've fully grasped this new version of the mod.
From what I've seen so far (against the vagyr ai) is that the Hgn power system seems to hinder them far more than the Vagyr, if not looked after properly. I just finished a map where the ai built 2 battlecruisers in the space of about a minute, while last night, it took me my at least 5 to complete one. The vagyr had no visible power station while I had one under powered one.

Am I only one who actually likes new power system? Power puts complexity to complex. I hope that power system will not be replaced by fuel system. I like more idea where power system is kept they way it is and the fuel/supply system is added ( something like this supply system proposed in this thread ).

The Fuel system would be a more sophisticated refinement of the Power system, and should eliminate the frustrations of Power as it is now.

Seriously though, a fuel/power system could be developed (and has been considered and discussed on several threads in great detail) that would replace/upgrade the power system. It would be more realistic (hopefully), add more of a logistical and strategic element, and try not to be too restrictive at the same time...

This would be a system in C9 if it were to be done. I'm sure (in fact, I will guarentee) that it WILL be discussed among the interns & developers (I guarentee this because I will personally start a thread on it).

in a months time i'll be moving on from my current tasks to the fuel system i outlined. that and a totally new research system.

reckon i'll do a new ui at the same time..Smile

I hate the power system and its basically why i started modding complex. Just got incredibly sidetracked while building the familiarity required to actually replace the fuel system.

Fuel, Research and UI will be all i care about in a month and with complex 9 gearing up i'd expect alot of scripting concepts being thrown around...Smile
